Nestled along the historic French River and surrounded by striking landscapes, the Municipality of French River is home to the vibrant communities of Alban, Noëlville and Monetville.

Located between Sudbury and Parry Sound, this gateway to Northern Ontario offers a tranquil blend of forest, rock, and winding waterways.

With a year-round population of just over 2,800—swelling to nearly 5,000 in summer—French River is a hidden gem where outdoor adventure and cottage country charm meet. Flowing for 110 kilometres from Lake Nipissing to Georgian Bay, the French River is not only our namesake but a vital ribbon of history, nature, and community spirit.

Western and Northern Unincorporated Townships

The Sudbury East Planning Area lies north of Georgian Bay, between Sudbury, North Bay, and Parry Sound. Known for its stunning lakes, rivers, and natural landscapes, this area is a gem of northern Ontario.

Easily accessible via the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 69) and Highway 17, the region connects communities across northern, southern, and eastern Ontario.

Several unincorporated townships here are managed by the Sudbury East Planning Board, established in December 1990. The Board helps guide local planning, including zoning, Official Plan updates, subdivisions, and consents.

These townships include:

  • Burwash
  • Cox
  • Davis
  • Hawley (except northeast corner)
  • Henry (except Concessions 1 and 2)
  • Hendrie
  • Janes (west half)
  • Laura
  • Loughrin (except Concessions 1–3)
  • Secord
  • Servos
  • Street (east of the Wanapitae River)
  • Waldie

Each township is part of a unique northern landscape, offering a mix of natural beauty, heritage, and opportunities for careful planning and sustainable development.
